Willie James Brown (84 years old), long time resident of the Mayfair Hotel in Belmar, NJ, passed away peacefully at the Jersey Shore Care Center in Eatontown, NJ on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, where he had resided for a little over 2 years.
Willie was born in Holmdel, NJ on September 20, 1937 to Ruth and Edward Brown, Sr. Immediately after his birth, he was transported to Fitkin Hospital (now Hackensack Meridian – Jersey Shore University Medical Center) in Neptune, NJ.
In his youthful days, Willie attended Elementary School at Glendola, Bailey’s Corner and Allenwood, followed by a brief attendance at Manasquan High School. He left to work at Cowboy City, Farmingdale, NJ where he tended to horses and performed associated maintenance.
Over the years, Willie worked for various companies, including Bell Labs, Lily Tulip, and Hunt’s Ketchup. He landed a Caretaker job at the Roschen Family Farm (Appledale Farms) in Wall Township, NJ, where he worked with his brother, George for approximately 42 years. He worked hard to care for the 110-acre property with beautiful woods and lakes, where he cut grass, mended fences, picked apples, assembled the hay and more.
Willie was a racetrack enthusiast, so in his spare time, he liked to frequent Freehold Raceway. In his later years, he faithfully visited with his sister, Rosalie and her family and brother, George in Brielle weekly.
Willie was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Fannie Biel, Ruth Small, Willie James Brown, Sr. “Brownie”, Floyd Brown, Edward Brown, Jr. “Pete”, and Margaret Brown (departed as a child). He is survived by his siblings, Rosalie Paige, George Brown, and Minnie Earl, and a host of loving nieces, nephews and other caring friends and relatives.
Condolences for the family may be sent to his niece, Ruth Ann Paige, at 135 Louisville Ave, Neptune, NJ.
