Synovia Britt Simms Williams, affectionately known as “Aunt Nobie”, 93, of Asbury Park, NJ entered eternal rest on Saturday, April 10, 2021, at King Manor Nursing Home, Neptune, NJ. She was born on April 19, 1927 in Neptune, NJ to John T. and Blanche T. Perry Britt.
The family lived in Asbury Park, NJ. Synovia graduated from high school in 1945 and attended Brookdale Community College, New York University and Art Dance Academy.
Synovia had a passion for dance. She danced with the Katherine Dunham Dance Troupe for 7 years. She became a professional dancer where her main focus was a mixture of ballet and African dance. She also started a private dance school called The Nobie Simms Dancers.
Her other passion besides dance was her love of children. Synovia became a teacher in the Asbury Park School System where she imparted her love of dance and music, self-care and self-love in all the children under her care. Her love of children and dance led to an album created by herself and Doreen Bellhorn called “I Like Myself” in 1974. Synovia was a great teacher, writer, play wright and mentor to many. Synovia was also an avid shopper. Her style and class will never be duplicated! She married Albert J. Williams on August 11, 1985.
Synovia was a member of Bethel AME Church, Asbury Park, from the age of 2 years old until her passing, when it was originally located on Main St and Second Ave in Asbury Park. She was a Trustee and a Missionary until she became emeritus at the point when her health began to fail.
Synovia was predeceased by her parents, husband, Albert J. Williams, brother, Perry Britt, sister-in-law, Marge Simms, and niece Toni Simms. She leaves to mourn her passing a host of caring friends, Bethel AME Church family, and best friend, Mary Jo Blue.
