Rashen Benton Obituary

Rashen Shareef Benton transitioned to eternal rest on July 23, 2019. He was born to Patricia VanHorn (Savage) and Wayne Benton on July 18, 1974 in New Brunswick, NJ.

Rashen grew up in South Toms River, NJ and was educated in the Toms River Regional Schools system. He graduated from Job Corps in 1992. Rashen's career passion was in car dealership sales and management. Every place he lived - New Jersey, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Georgia - he landed a job in the business.

Rashen loved sports and was on the wrestling and football teams at Toms River North High School. He was a die-hard fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Dallas Cowboys football teams. As a member of the Pop Warner football coaching staff in Louisville, KY, he also experienced the joy of teaching his son Caleb about his favorite game.

During his membership at Unity Deliverance Ministries (UDM), Rashen came to know and experience God like never before. In 2007, he became a licensed minister under UDM and Kingdom Fellowship Covenant Ministries. That same year, he combined his love of God and music to record his first rap CD - The Genesis I Focus on God - which is his prolific testimony of God's saving grace. He enjoyed collaborating with others on the project, including Harold Stallworth, Jr. Rashen's music inspired so many as he shared his gift in forums small and large, including The Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville, KY.

All who encountered Rashen knew him to be a vocal, expressive, talented, fun-loving, friendly, cool brother who could connect with anyone.

Rashen was blessed with sons Raesean Malik in 1994, and Rashen, Jr. in 2000. He was married to Billie-Jo Coleman for 12 years, and to their union, Ryan, Caleb and Sarah were born. Rashen was incredibly proud of his five children.

Rashen is preceded in death by his infant daughter, Rahjanae Benton; his step-father, Elder LeRoy Savage; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Rashen is survived by his children, Raesean Benton of Jacksonville, FL, Rashen Benton, Jr. of Lakehurst, NJ, Ryan, Caleb and Sarah Benton of Louisville, KY; mother, Overseer Patricia Savage of S. Toms River, NJ; father, Wayne Benton of Myrtle Beach, SC; siblings, Denice (Waine) Worthy of S. Toms River, NJ, Samuel (Celena) Fowler of Bayville, NJ, Shelley (Michael) Barnes of Brick, NJ, Charles Scott of S. Toms River, NJ, Monique Fowler of S.
