Maureen Lockett was born on November 27, 1941, in Lakewood, New Jersey to Eloise and Edward Mincey. An active, adventurous, and friendly person, Maureen loved her family. She was proud to be a MINCEY!
At an early age, she went to live with the family matriarch, Ethel and Warner Donaldson. Revered and respected by our entire family, “Grannie” instilled the values that guided Maureen throughout her life.
Maureen attended Lakewood Public Schools. In high school she was described as straight forward, outgoing, and an enthusiastic cheerleader. After graduating from high school in 1959, she pursued a career as a beautician, and moved to Newark, New Jersey.
She met Robert Lockett Jr. and married in 1962. To this union, they were blessed with two sons, Robert Lamont and Brian Lance. A devoted mother, she switched her career path to be available to her sons.
During her thirty years in the Newark Public School System, Maureen rose to be head security guard at Newark East Side High School. She was known and respected for being firm, but fair. She tolerated no nonsense.
Her personal interests were board games, bingo, and her sons. She made frequent trips to Lakewood to stay connected to her family. Maureen's home was always available to family members who worked or attended school and needed a place to stay.
Maureen was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Eloise Mincey, sisters, Verleen Bernard, Thelma Briscoe, and brothers, Edward and Leon Mincey.
Maureen is survived by her sons, Robert, Brian and wife Kia Lockett, sisters, Christine Wyatt, Betty Ann Mincey, brothers Leonard and LaVaughn Mincey, daughters, Monic Hargrove and Arlene Florence, grandchildren, Koryn, Terrell, Britney, Shantell, Brian, 9 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and intimately close family friends.
