Mattie Luckey Obituary

Mattie Elizabeth Luckey, 84, was born in Neptune NJ to the late Charles Alexander and Olive (Harvey) Alexander on March 26, 1937.  Mattie, affectionately known as “Liz”, gained her wings on January 27, 2022 at home and went to be with her Lord and Savior.

Liz grew up in Brielle, NJ and graduated from Manasquan High School in 1955.  She was the youngest of five children.  On October 30, 1960 she married the love of her life, James Scott Luckey, and together they raised 7 children. The family resided in South Belmar, NJ before moving to Neptune NJ in 1968 and has resided at this location for the last 54 years.

Liz was a domestic worker and caretaker of many before being employed at Marlboro State Hospital. She retired from the hospital in 1998 when they closed.  She continued in the health care field working private duty.

She enjoyed many trips to Atlantic City, NJ with Agnes Jefferson, her best friend.  She also enjoyed playing cards with her Brielle family, working in her yard, having family barbecues and making her famous sweet potato pies for her co-workers from Marlboro family and friends.  She also loved to make her potato salad.

Liz was predeceased in death by her husband, James Scott Luckey, parents, siblings, Betty Evans, Grover Alexander, Margie Simmons, and Charles (Bunky) Alexander, and her favorite aunt, Dorothy (Sackie) Harvey.

She leaves to cherish her memories her seven children, Derek (Karen) Alexander, Deborah Alexander, Denise (Carl) Richardson, Dedra (Kwaku) Saprong, Charles (Lakeeta) Luckey, Dwayne Luckey, Sonya (Price) Montgomery, 21 grandchildren, Taniya, Darnell, Tivona, Adrian, Tamara, Tierra, Nekida, Tyrone, Charles Jr., Derek Jr., Michael Jr., Alyssa, Janet, Tyrell, Brandon, Tayana, Dwayne Jr., Tyreek, Keandra, Jamir and Jamel, 27 great grandchildren, two brothers in laws, Oliver Stokes and Edward Evans, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
