Marie B. Shearn

Marie B. Shearn, 84, of Toms River, NJ passed away in her home on Monday, December 7, 2020.  She was born in Mount Vernon, NY on June 28, 1936 to Alma and Samuel Gillian Sr.

In her early years, Marie was employed with Barbizon clothing design and the Catholic Diocese in Paterson, NJ. She was later employed as a secretary for State Farm Insurance Company in Wall, NJ, where she retired after 25 years of service.

Marie enjoyed being active after her retirement. She was an active member of Second Baptist Church in South Toms River, NJ. She played bingo every week and went on Atlantic City trips with her buddies (as she would call them), from the Toms River Senior Center. Marie also loved to travel to see family and friends. Every Sunday at one o’clock she would be front and center ready to watch her favorite football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, dominate the field.

She was predeceased by her parents, Alma and Samuel Gillian Sr.; husband, Joseph C. Shearn Sr.; son, Joseph C. Shearn Jr.; three brothers, James, Charles, and Samuel Gillian; and one sister, Anna Taliaferro.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Donna M. Shearn of Toms River, NJ; sister, Jean Gillian of Conway, SC; brother, Alan Gillian and wife Ruth Gillian of Woodbridge, VA; grandchildren, Stephanie D. Brown of Toms River, NJ, Andre Williams of Raleigh, NC, Jahan Coles of Paterson, NJ, and Samia M. Shearn of Toms River, NJ; great-grandchildren, Laila M. Walker of Toms River, NJ, and Jaden S. Jacobs of Paterson, NJ; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
