Lottie Mae James began her life on September 20, 1937, in Sumter, South Carolina. She was born the fourth of six children to Percy Sr. and Lucinda Spencer.
On May 20, 2023, Lottie shed her mortal coil and went to be with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Johnny James, father and mother, siblings, Matthew, Percy Jr. and Manning.
While growing up, Lottie attended public school in Sumter, South Carolina and graduated from Ebenezer High School. At an early age she accepted Christ and began serving the Lord at High Hill AME Church in Dalzell, South Carolina.
In 1955 Lottie moved to New York City to pursue her modeling career. She married Johnny James 65 years ago. They later moved to Asbury Park, New Jersey and joined Allen Chapel AME Church, Asbury Park, New Jersey. Through this union four children were born.
She furthered her education and became a Certified Nurse’s Assistant. She was employed with Fitkins Hospital (Jersey Shore Medical Center) until her retirement. Her enjoyment was always being surrounded by family and friends, feeding any and every one that came around. Her favorite eatery was “Irv’s Deli.” Lottie continued to care for the elderly, as well as others, until her health would not allow her to continue to be a blessing.
Left to carry on her legacy are Lottie’s three sons, Arnold (Fredia), Ralph, Kevin and her only daughter, Bridget, five grandchildren, Stuart (Yolanda), Anthony (Malika), Britney (Michael), Zachary and Ava, ten great-grandchildren, Chesdin, Cameryn, Sha’Asia, Sha’Kia, Sye’Veonna, Loren, Aleesiah, Marquis, Jordan, Malik, Amarrah and Michael Jr., four great-great grands, two sisters, Mary Alice Williams of Forestville, MD, and Elizabeth Gadson of Sumter, SC, sister-in-laws, Harriett Williams of Washington, DC, and Hazel Green of Bronx, NY, brother-in-laws, Reverend Harry English of Capital Heights, MD, and Robert Young Sr of Sumter, SC, loving niece, Charlene Johnson (caregiver), and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Special extended family members, Venus Roselle and Shanice Grant.
