Lannie Bell (McLean) Ball, also known to her family and friends as “Maxie or “Maxine” was born on June 5, 1927, in Trenton, NJ to the late Daniel Sr. and Nettie McLean. She attended New Lincoln Elementary School and Central High School both in Trenton. In her youth, she regularly attended Galilee Baptist Church, Trenton. In 1946, she met and married the late Henry Lee Ball, Jr.
In 1951, Maxie relocated with her two children to Asbury Park, NJ. She was employed by Consolidated Keystone Laundry and Star Laundry. In the 1970’s, she became a Certified Home Health Aide and worked for Family & Children’s Services for 24 years. In 1984, she also became employed by Continental Insurance Company, as a Clerk working in their Distribution Department. She retired from both places of employment in 1992.
In 1980, Maxie joined Second Baptist Church, Asbury Park, NJ. Maxie rededicated her life and again accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord & Savior. She was also baptized that same year. She enjoyed attending Sunday Worship Service and was always in her spot in the center aisle on the six row. Due to health issues Maxie could no longer attend church service in person, but her daughter Talaya would bring her to church for special programs when Maxie was feeling up to it. She was very happy and grateful whenever she could attend. She was a member of the First Aide Unit Ministry at Second where she served faithfully for many years until her health began to hinder her and she sadly had to step down. The First Aide Unit Ministry made her an honorary member and she was thrilled.
Maxie was a very devoted and dedicated Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin & Friend to many. She was a very family-oriented Woman. She raised her six children, some of her grandchildren, nieces, nephews and opened her home to many family members anytime they needed a place to stay.
She enjoyed watching her Stories (Soap Operas), talking on the phone and reading. She also enjoyed traveling, going to visit and spending time with her Children, Sisters, Brothers and family members. Although she was a “No Nonsense Strict” Woman, she loved everyone and had a heart of gold. She would greet family & friends with a “Hi, Love”! Maxie was an active member of a social club known as “The Golden Girls” for approximately 9 years. When her health started to decline, she had to step down. She was grateful to become a “Honorary Member”.
She was predeceased by her parents: Daniel Sr. and Nettie McLean, four children, Sheila Ball-Mayweather, Andre (Uba) Ball, Wayne (Keith) Ball and Dierdra (Dee Dee) Ball, her siblings, Daniel Jr., Nettie, Sarah, Joseph, David, Frances and James Sr.
Maxie departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, with her daughter Talaya and Grandson Kenneth by her side.
Her legacy and loving memory will continue to be cherished by her two Daughters, Talaya Brinkley, Laurel, DE and Cynthia Ball, Cleveland, OH, two Sons-in-Love, Anthony Brinkley, Laurel, DE and Kenneth Ingram, Long Branch, NJ, seven grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and great great great-grandchildren, two sisters, Barbara McLean, Peekskill, NY and Celeste Solomon, West Salem, NC, bonus daughters, Rosalyn Jackson, Riverdale, GA, Elsie Baptiste, Neptune, NJ, special cousin, Gail Navarro, Neptune, NJ, best friend Rebecca Williams, Neptune, NJ, her SBCAP Family, and a host of many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
