Jesse Moorer, Jr.

Effective 9 pm Saturday, March 21, 2020, New Jersey Governor, Phil Murphy, had mandated by executive order #107, that all New Jersey residents shall remain home or in their place of residence unless they are obtaining essential goods or services from businesses or government agencies.  All gatherings of individuals, such as funeral services, parties, celebrations, or other social events, are cancelled.

These restrictions will remain in effect until further notice from the state governor.  Due to this mandate, the funeral service and “Live Stream” video for Jesse B. Moorer, Jr. has been cancelled.

The family is grateful, and would like to extend their sincere thanks, for all the support and condolences from friends and the community in their time of mourning.

Obituary

Jesse Bob Moorer Jr, 55, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 in his home in Neptune, NJ.  He was born on October 3, 1964, in Georgiana, AL to Reverend Jesse B. Moorer Sr. and Edith Helen Moorer.

His family moved to Newark, NJ in 1964, then later settled in Red Bank, NJ in 1974. He attended and graduated from Red Bank Public Schools.  At a very young age, Jesse developed a keen interest in music and was encouraged by his father to pursue his musical interest.  His natural ability to play music by ear had driven him to play many musical instruments, which included the organ, piano, guitar and drums.

In 1988, Jesse married Eulita Jackson-Moorer.  During their 24-year marriage they raised and nurtured their three beautiful daughters, Alicia Jackson, Micaela Latimer, and Shae Moorer. They later divorced in 2012.

Over the course of his working career Jesse worked for WCI/Frigidaire then later, Fragrances Resources. He ultimately committed to making music his full-time career.

Jesse served as Head Musician and Director of the Choir at Voice Center Baptist Church, in Tinton Falls, NJ during his teenage years.  His father, Reverend Jesse B. Moorer Sr, had founded the church and was the presiding pastor.

In 1993, Jesse briefly toured with the Mighty Sons of Glory. He eventually moved on to serve as the organist for Pilgrim Baptist Church in Red Bank, NJ.  He later became the church musician at St. Stephen A.M.E. Zion Church in Asbury Park, NJ.  After serving some time at St. Stephen A.M.E. Zion Church, Jesse obtained a new position, as Minister of Music at Second Baptist Church in Asbury Park, NJ. His most recent position was Minister of Music at the Bethel A.M.E. Church in Asbury Park NJ.

Jesse furthered his music education at Brookdale Community College. While there, he was asked to sing with the Brookdale Big Band Orchestra. He also was the co-founder of the gospel group, The Anointed Sons of Jersey.  They had received the National Quartet Division Artist of the Year Award in Atlanta, Georgia in 2012. Jesse also founded The Alliance Singers who performed and recorded with the music icon, Bruce Springsteen, on the Grammy Award-Winning album entitled, “Rising”.  On that album he sung four songs and played the Hammond Organ on the song entitled, “My City of Ruins”.  He also performed with Springsteen on NBC’s, The Today Show.  The Alliance Singers also performed for the cast and crew of the HBO series, “The Wire”, for a memorial service for co-creator, Robert F. Colesberry.

Jesse was predeceased by his mother, Edith Helen Moorer.  He is survived by his father, Jesse B. Moorer, Sr. of AL; daughters, Alicia Jackson of NJ, Micaela Latimer and husband, Jerry Latimer II of Georgia, and Shae Moorer of NJ; grandchildren, Aryanna, James and Aiyanna Morris, all of NJ, and Jerry Latimer III of Georgia; brother, Morris Moorer and wife, Linda, of NJ; sisters, Virginia Rock of TN, Jenifer King and Monyetta Jones, both of CA.
