James Edward Guda, 80, of Tinton Falls, New Jersey passed away in Jersey Shore University Medical Center on July 3, 2019. He was born on October 29, 1938 to Alphonso and Pauline (Pollyanna Mitchell) Guda in New York City.
Following the untimely death of his father when he was only a year old, James and his mother moved into an apartment with his mother’s sister, Mary Mitchell. They eventually moved to New Jersey and settled in the Red Bank/Middletown, New Jersey area.
He graduated from Middletown High School where he excelled academically and ran track. Although he never attended college, he was awarded an athletic scholarship to run track in college. He worked for the United States Postal Service for many years, and also drove a school bus.
On April 12, 1958, he married June Mercedes Perry. Two daughters were born of this union, LeAnne Patrice Hughley (Wayne) and Sheryl Lynne Williams (Keith). They were divorced in 1974.
James was preceded in death by both his parents; ex-wife, June M. Thomas (2000); daughter, LeAnne (2009); and step daughter, Elaine J. Crudup (2017). He is survived by one daughter, Sheryl Williams; one stepson; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
