Ernestine Young

Ernestine Hutto Young of Manchester, NJ passed away February 2, 2022. She was born in South Carolina on June 28, 1936 to Maude Hutto.

Ernestine graduated with honors from Benedict College, Columbia, S.C. During her junior year (1958-1959), she was selected to appear in ‘Who’s Who in Colleges and Universities’. At Benedict College, she was initiated into the Psi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc and served in several capacities. Ernestine was employed by the New York City Housing Authority.  She rose through the ranks to become Director of Housing Applications.

On August 19, 1971, she met Victor L. Young and three months later they married on December 10, 1971, Victor's birthday. Ernestine and Victor continued to live in NYC until they moved to Lakewood, NJ in 1975.  Their son, Victor L. Young Junior was born on April 9, 1979, and passed away at 2 ½ years old on October 13, 1981.

Ernestine is predeceased by her husband, Victor Young Sr., son, Victor Young Jr., mother, Maude Hutto. She is survived by her god-chosen family, Anthony and Elizabeth Sernotti, god-granted grandchildren, Evelynn and Ava Sernotti, goddaughter, Vicki Boseman, godson, Jonathan Sandridge, best friend, Sylvia Sandridge, cousin, Sally Hutto, Alpha Kalpha Alpha Sorority, and her very dear friends, the Baldwins, Millers, and Parkhursts.
