Ellis Jerome Neal, Sr., 82, of Asbury Park peacefully transitioned into God's Kingdom June 3, 2021 at home. He was born on February 16, 1939 as the only child of the late John Ellis Neat and late Idean Layton Neal, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Ellis came to New Jersey in 1959, he was employed as a Teamsters Union driver, and member of Local 469 based out of Hazlet, New Jersey. He retired after 42 years of service. In 1963, he married Rosa Walden and to this union two sons were born, Ellis Neal, Jr. and Renard J. Neal, Sr.
Ellis gave his life to God and became a faithful member of Good Hope Baptist Church in Asbury Park, New Jersey, where he served over 55 years. He became a Deacon in 1968. He lived by his favorite message in James 1 verse 22, "But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves”.
He applied this message in all that he did. He served in many capacities at Good Hope Baptist Church. He was Chairman of the Deacon Board for a time, managed the Benevolent Fund, where he could apply his wisdom and compassion in helping people in need, in this capacity he visited the sick giving aid and comfort. He was on the snow removal team, assisted with Good Hope clothing drives, and was a member of the Deacon Board. There was not a job too small for Deacon Neal to perform. He worked in his gift which was singing. He was a member of the Male Choir and at times lead vocalist.
Deacon Neal was predeceased by his father, John Ellis, mother, Idean, wife, Rosa, and his son, Ellis, Jr. His memory will forever be cherished by his son, Renard J., daughter-in-law, Kristal, daughter, Phyllis Neal Ash, grandchildren, Marcus Amir Neal, Renard “RJ" Neal Jr., Chelsea Neal, Treana Neal, Jason Neal, Shamika Neal Wells, great-grandchildren, Trey Roberts, Dre 'Darrins Myers, Hansley Wells, and many friends.
