Dorothy Crowder Obituary

Dorothy Crowder, 83, of Toms River NJ, affectionately known as Dottie, went home to be with the Lord on September 24, 2020. She was born on June 22, 1937 in Pittsburgh, PA to Anthony and Irene Robinson.

Dorothy was a graduate of Butler High School in Butler, PA. She also graduated from Future Glory Bible School in Asbury Park, NJ. Dorothy was employed with Sears, Roebuck & Company for over 30 years as manager of the shoe department, jewelry department, store restaurant and candy department.  She retired after her beloved husband, Clyde Crowder, was injured in a fatal truck accident. She also worked for ShopRite in Neptune, NJ and was known and loved for her bubbly personality.

Dorothy, also referred to as Mother Crowder, was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Tabernacle Church. She served there as Elder of Christian Education, a beloved Sunday School teacher, and was a devoted choir member. She was well known for her rich contralto and her vibrant expression of praise when ministering in song. Dorothy was also a proud member of the Spiritual Chords singing group, comprised of local gospel vocalists.

She is predeceased by her son, Michael Kendrix; grandson, Jared E. Mallory; father, Anthony Robinson Sr.; mother, Irene Robinson; and seven siblings, Carl Robinson, Jimmy Robinson, Claud Robinson, Dempsey Robinson, Ruth Brandon, Lily Mae Spain, and Anthony Robinson, Jr.; special mention and dear to her heart, Carol Holt, and the late Larry Johnson.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Clyde Crowder; children, Steven Lee, California, Mary Mallory, Neptune, Denise Boykin, Shelly Kendrix, and Georgia; grandchildren, Joshua E. Mallory and Everett Barnhart; siblings, Mary Catherine Kelly (Joe), Leonard Robinson (Tiffany), and Ray Robinson; god children, Troy Tucker, Nicole Hall, and Frances Gray; two very special friends, Brenda Shuler, and Doris Pierce; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
