Catherine Thomas Obituary

Profile of Life

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”

2 Timothy 4: 7-8

A Time to be Born:

In the Spring of 1947, when flowers were blooming, birds were singing and the sound of beach waves out of eternality past and the mind of God, he blessed Deacon Elmore, Sr. and Louise Gainer-Anthony with a beautiful baby girl, Catherine “Cat” Anthony which was the seventh child of fourteen born May 30th, in the beautiful historical city of Savannah, Georgia. seven siblings have preceded her in death, Mildred Anthony, Eugene Anthony, Sr., Janice Battle, Elmore Anthony, Jr., Abbie Dell Anthony- Edwards and Raymond Anthony; first husband, Joseph Thomas, Jr.; father of Toni Thomas-Smith, Charlie White.

A Time to Live:

She graduated from Sophronia M. Tompkins High class of 1965, where she was on the Wolverines flag team for two years. In August of 1965 shortly after graduating high school, Catherine relocated to New York then later Asbury, New Jersey; it was in the north where she would walk in her God-given purpose for more than 50 years.  She graduated from Smiths School of Cosmetology, she was also a gifted hair stylist hair, and great cook, and love to bake cakes and pies. She was an advocate for the Asbury Park, Housing Authority for many years. She was employed for Toys R US for twenty-six years until retiring in 2011 after her health began to fail.

A Time to Love:

Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall cleave unto his wife and the two shall become one flesh, Genesis 2:24 KJV. On February 12, 1966, Catherine joined in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life; Joseph Thomas, Jr. Catherine was a loving and devoted wife.

A Time to be Fruitful and Multiple:

She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed… praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates. Catherine was blessed with two beautiful gifts from God Sharon and Toni. She was an exceptional Proverbs 31 mother to her daughters and a phenomenal grandmother.

 A Time to Worship:

At an early age, she was baptized and became a member of First African Baptist Church of Woodsville where she worked faithfully with her family until relocated. After relocating to Asbury, Park NJ, God planted her in Mt Olive Holy Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership and tutelage of Bishop Johnson, where she sang in the choir, and worked faithfully wherever there was a need. Under Bishop’s Johnson leadership, Catherine recommitted her life to Christ, received the baptism of the Holy Ghost and began to make preparations for eternal life her life to Christ.
