Bernice (Bern) Lance our beloved sister, aunt and friend to many went to be with the Lord on Monday Morning November 28, 2022. Bernice had just celebrated her 89th Birthday on November 17, 2022. Born in Charleston, South Carolina to Mary W. Davis and Sammie Jiles Sr.
Bernice attended Simonton Elementary School and Graduated from Burke High School in 1952. She was a member of Central RMUE Church in Charleston, South Carolina. Bernice received Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. After graduation Bernice relocated to Asbury Park, New Jersey.
She has been a member of St. Stephen A.M.E. Zion Church since 1953. Bernice was faithful and loved serving the Lord. She was a member of the Missionary (WH&OMS) Society, Steward Board, Pastor’s Steward for many years, Class Leader, Jewels of Zion, Bible Ministry and other church activities. Bernice and Louise had a special time together to study the Bible, praise, worship and rejoiced in the Lord.
Bernice was joined in holy matrimony with Benjamin (Peaches) Lance on September 17, 1961. She was always An Other Mother to her sisters, nephews, nieces, family and friends. Bernice nurtured and gave good advice.
Bernice was employed at Signalite Electronics, Neptune, TFH Publications, Neptune City, New Jersey, Retired from Bradley School, Asbury Park, New Jersey as a Lunch Server. She enjoyed being a Poll Worker during Election time. Bernice enjoyed cooking and having family and friends over. Everyone loved her pound cake. She also enjoyed watching the game shows.
Bernice is preceded by her parents Mrs. Mary W. Davis and Sammie Jiles Sr, and husband, Benjamin (Peaches) Lance.
She leaves to cherish her memories her sisters, Thelma Streaks, Asbury Park, NJ and Louise Waker, Lakewood, NJ, her Charleston, South Carolina siblings, Sammie Jiles Jr., Gertrude Whiteside, Wilbur Jiles, Christopher Jiles, Stanley Jiles, Doris Hodges, Niece, Lynnett Streaks, Maryland, Nephew Winfred Breeze Waker (Carmen), Lakewood, NJ, Niece, Deborah Lately (Vaughn Jr.) Virginia, Sherri L. Smith, Brooklyn, NY, Terrence Accoo (Yveline), Georgia, Shamar Washington, Heaven Washington, Shamier Harris, Cousin Eva M. Dawson and family, Charleston, South Carolina, and many cousins and friends.
