Belen Rivera, a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was 79 years old.
Born on April 4, 1946, in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, Belen was the daughter of the late Bonifacia Otero and Jose Padilla. She later married Jose L. Rivera Sr., and together they raised six children.
She was immensely proud to be the matriarch of a growing family, including 20 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, whom she loved deeply and unconditionally.
Belen was known for her vibrant personality, strong spirit, and generous heart. She loved visiting the casinos in Atlantic City, where she enjoyed laughter and good times with those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved son Jose L. Rivera Jr., and her siblings Ana Gloria, Margot, Justa, Juan Feliciano, and Angel Luis.
Belen is survived by her children: Maria, John, David, Angel, and George; her siblings Alicia, Gloria Esther, Ines, and Jorge; her partner Edwin; and a large extended family.
Belen's warmth, kindness, and fierce spirit touched all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
