Barbara Louise Clark, 80, formerly of Spring Lake Heights, NJ, departed this life on Friday, May 18, 2018. She was the daughter of the late George B. and Sallie Clark, and the sister of the late George B. Clark, Jr.
Barbara, affectionately known as “Boo”, was born on March 13, 1938, at Fitkin Hospital, Neptune, NJ. At that time she was the smallest baby born at Fitkin Hospital. As a toddler, she was one of the winners in a Beautiful Child contest.
She attended elementary school in Spring Lake Heights, NJ, and then attended Manasquan High School, Manasquan, NJ. She pursued her lifetime goal of becoming a nurse at Newark Beth Israel Hospital School of Nursing, Newark, NJ, graduating in 1959, as a Registered Nurse.
Barbara’s nursing career began in the United States Air Force Nurse Corps in 1960. The Air Force gave Barbara the opportunity to pursue her love of travel. After discharge from the Air Force, Barbara continued her education at Georgian Court College, Lakewood, NJ, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. Upon resuming her nursing career in 1978, Barbara’s career took her to Seattle, Washington, Mt. Edgecombe, Alaska, Owyhee, Nevada; and, then back to Seattle, where she made her home in Kent, Washington.
While in Kent, she joined the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Baptist Church (MLK), where she faithfully served as an Usher. While ushering at MLK, Barbara formed a close bond with three other ushers: the late Vivian Gordon, Joyce LaBoo and Beverly Proby. These three ladies voluntarily devoted their time and energy to attend to Barbara’s needs.
Barbara will be missed by her aunts, Annie Valentine and Catherine Tassy; and her cousins and friends.
