Arthur James Fitzpatrick, son of the late Needham and Annie Lee Fitzpatrick, was born June 26, 1957, in Neptune, NJ. He entered eternal rest on November 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife and family.
His life reflected hard-earned wisdom, quiet discipline, and a steady commitment to leading a good life and helping others in practical ways. A graduate of Allentown High School, Arthur went on to build a long and impactful career at Thomas Edison State University, where he managed the Environmental Services Department.
In that role, he provided training, created employment opportunities for many individuals, and supported a number of workforce and reentry programs. Arthur took great pride in his time and work with Hudson Community Enterprises, where he was employed for over 20 years and was Sr. Director of Quality Control. He and the team provided top care to State buildings, Kean College and others, just to name a few.
He played an early part in establishing the national Scared Straight program, and contributed to many initiatives designed to give people structure, accountability, and a second chance to move forward. Arthur was also involved with the Lifest Group, where he offered guidance and perspective shaped by his lived experience.
He was an eloquent speaker, his coaching approach was direct and straightforward, and many loved him for that. Outside of work, Arthur was known for his unmistakable style. He was a sharp dresser who took pride in looking his best. He loved hats, music, and dancing, and those who knew him will remember his big smile, personality and flair that he brought into every room.
Arthur took pride in being culturally and socially conscious and he loved to read. He was also a great debater with an extensive library of books on Black anthropology, culture, history, social, political, and economic justice.
After years of friendship, then love, Arthur married his best friend, Valerie Macon, on January 1, 2003. Together, with God's help, they worked, built and were committed to live their best life this side of heaven.
After years of attending worship services in Lakewood, NJ, Athur and Valerie, felt compelled to connect with Cornerstone Church, Howell, NJ. They accepted and embraced the divine change. Arthur undoubtedly loved God, his wife and his family. His impact in life will continue to be celebrated by those whose lives crossed his path.
He is predeceased by his parents, Needham and Annie Lee Fitzpatrick Sr.; his father and mother-in-law Robert and Vera Macon; his siblings Bea, Needham Jr., Major, Leon, and Evelyn.
He will continue to be loved, cherished and remembered by his wife, Valerie Fitzpatrick; his sister, Patricia Fitzpatrick; his sisters-in-law, Cleo Fitzpatrick, Robbie (Orlando) Thomas, Marilyn Macon, Nettie Macon; his brothers-in-law Bernard (Netta) Macon, Mikel Jefferson; his aunt Jean Remson and: numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
