Obituary

Virginia Maxine Alexander (Ruffin), 89, of Elkton, MD passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2015.  She was born on February 13, 1926 in Franklin County, Louisburg, North Carolina to the late Norman and Ortney Ruffin.

Virginia attended the public schools of Howell Township, New Jersey.  She was employed by the State of New Jersey as a licensed Human Service Technician for 41 years until her retirement in 1988.  She was the wife of the late Walter Francis Alexander of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Virginia became a member of the Bethany Baptist Church at the age of thirteen, under the leadership of Rev. Walker.  She was an active member of the choir.  She later became a member of Faith Baptist Tabernacle in August of 1966 and established herself there until her passing.

Sister Alexander was the mother of nine children, six daughters and three sons.  She was the grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and aunt of many. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Alexander; parents, Norman and Ortney Ruffin; two daughters, Joanne Alexander (2008) and Geraldine Pierce-Willis (2009); grandson, Derrell Alexander (2007); and best friend, Mary Jones (2010).

She is survived by three sons, Walter Alexander, Barry Alexander, and Rodney Alexander; four daughters, Carol Merritt, Bonita Battle, Sharon Alexander, and Brenda Alexander; 27 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 28 great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
