Talmadge
Hammond
Jun 30, 1942 — Oct 25, 2015
Talmadge (nee-Jones) Hammond, 73, of Asbury Park, NJ was granted her angel wings at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford, DE on Sunday morning, October 25, 2015. She was born on June 30, 1942 to the late Willie Wallace and Lallie (nee-Person) Jones in Louisburg, NC, and had been married to the late Robert F. Hammond.
While growing up in Long Branch, Talmadge was a member of Second Baptist Church and was a graduate of Long Branch High School, Long Branch, NJ. Many years later she attended Brookdale Community College. In May of 1991, Talmadge became employed by U.S. Life in Neptune, NJ which later changed their name to AIG-American General where she retired November of 2011.
She loved the Lord and was a member of St. Peter Claver Roman Catholic Church, now known as Mother of Mercy Parish. Her devotion encompassed being a loving mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and Godmother. Talmadge was lovingly called mom, mommy, and Nana. She was dependable, reliable, consistent, generous, and loyal friend to many.
Talmadge loved to read, read, read, and read, travel, FaceTime and take selfies, especially with her granddaughter Faith, as well as play games on her iPad and iPhone. Part of her summer travelling was spending time at her daughter Robin's in Delaware where she was coined our "fresh air kid". There she enjoyed tending to the plants and rocking or sitting on the front porch.
While on her trips to Delaware, she also enjoyed spending time with Anais, a Pit Bull. She explained that Anais was not the families' pet, but instead, she was family. Anais afforded her with certain liberties and privileges that were not granted to other family members.
She also enjoyed riding on errands with her son-in-law and had remarked on numerous occasions that "Daryl was her best son-in-law." In addition to spending time with her family, Talmadge loved all genres of music and could be found bopping to anything with a beat. She enjoyed cooking and sharing recipes with her daughters, but one of her last enjoyments in life was babysitting her Goddaughter, Carissa's daughter, Milah Brielle she lovingly called "Munch".
Talmadge was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Willie Frank Jones. She is survived by her devoted daughters, Tia Hammond of Asbury Park, NJ, and Robin Hayes (Daryl), and Estella Whiting of Seaford, DE; one grandson; three granddaughters; four great grandsons; four great granddaughters; one nephew; two great grand nephews; one great grandniece; and a host of cousins and friends.
