Shena Young-Petersen, 54, of Neptune, NJ, was called home to the Lord on Friday, November 27, 2020 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. She was born on December 12, 1965 in Palatka, FL to Sheila Smith and Jerome Young, Sr.

Shena grew up in Lakewood, NJ and then later moved to Asbury Park, where she graduated from Asbury Park High School in 1984. She met the love of her life, Terrance Petersen, in 1983 and they later married in August of 1995. They bore three children, Leron, Shevahn, and Najah Petersen, and raised Tameka Calloway as one their own.

Shena had a passion for helping others and at a young age wanted to become a nurse. In 2001, she fulfilled that dream and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. When she wanted to relax, Shena enjoyed doing DIY arts and crafts, shopping, gardening, going to the beach, and spending time with her family.

She was predeceased by her father, Jerome Young, Sr., grandmothers, Mrs Katie Lee Jones Bell and Julia A. Young; great grandmother, Mary Ann Jenkins Jones; grandfather, Frank Tappy" Smith and aunt,Yvette Vivian Smith.

She is survived by her husband, Terrance Petersen of Bronx, NY; four children Leron, Shevahn, Najah Petersen, Tameka Calloway of Neptune NJ; mother, Sheila Holman; sister, Katwana Spearman-Young; brothers, Spencer Young Sr., Kutame U. Allah, and Keith Spearman; grandchildren, Kajiana Norwood, Nysean Kennedy, Saah'Meir Johnson, Jai'Lyn Patterson, George Mazyck III, Geonna and Geordyn Mazyck; uncles, Kenneth and Alonzo; aunt, Lindell; and a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
