Obituary

Rosalie "Nesie" Gainey, 77, of Lakewood, New Jersey passed away on Monday, September 5, 2016 at Ocean Medical Center, in Brick, NJ.  She was born on October 20, 1938 in Saint Simons Island, Georgia to Constance Davis and Grant Wilson.

As the eldest of thirteen, and a southern belle, Rosa spent her youth helping with her siblings and working as a cigarette girl where she met her husband. On October 21, 1956, she married the love of her life, W.J. Gainey and soon after moved north to start their lives together. They eventually settled down in Lakewood, New Jersey where they would extend and raise their family.

Over the years she worked for various companies including but not limited to Amway Global, ABC Company, and Jersey Shore Egg Factory. She was also a member of the Eastern Star Masonic Lodge, and most recently the church of ITM Ministries until an illness limited her mobility.

Rosa's main focus was being a homemaker, mother and wife in a loving marriage for 57 years. Her loving spirit and welcoming heart made her a great friend to a number of people and a second mother, or Nana, for many in the community.

Rosa was predeceased by her husband, Willie; sister, Primrose; bothers, Charles Jackson, Vince Jackson, and Thynoise Jackson; son, Carl Gainey; daughter, Cynthia Cherry; grandson, Carl Gainey; and both of her parents.

She is survived by her sisters, Susie Cohen, of Tampa, Florida, Carry Baker and Wendy Jackson, both of Brunswick, GA; brothers, Theodore Jackson, of Long Branch, NJ, Steve and Joe Louis Jackson, both of St Simons Island, GA, and paternal brother, Grant Wilson, of Columbia, SC; daughters, Marie, of Apollo Beach, FL, Sandra (Stephen), of South Toms River, NJ, and Marcia, of Trenton, NJ; sons, Gary (Brenda), of Lakewood, NJ, Roger, of Oakland, CA, and son-in-law Michael Cherry, of Lakewood, NJ; nine grandchildren, Michael, Tenisha (Oshti), Gary, Jr., Ania, Kamar, Ajayah, Sierra, Destiny, and Isaiah; three god-children, Desiree Tims, Denae Lee, and Radiyah Green.
