Obituary

Weep not for though I have gone into the gentle night, grieve if you will but not for long upon my soul's sweet flight. I am at peace my soul is at rest there is no need for tears for with your love I was truly blessed.

Robin Mitchell-Shuler

Robert M. Mitchell, of Neptune, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 03, 2018 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

He was born to the late Willis E. and Edith M. Bailey-Mitchell in Cape Charles, Virginia, the second of seven children.  Robert was a member of St. Stephen A.M.E. church and continued to financially support the church many years after he left the area. He was educated in the Northampton County school system.  He relocated to Asbury Park, New Jersey immediately after graduation from high school, where he worked two summers before graduation; becoming a permanent resident.

Robert's, (better known as Bob to friends and co-workers) true wealth was in his generous heart and what endless wealth did he bare.  He had a special place in his heart for children and the elderly.  He was a great cook and loved to cook out in the backyard and invite neighbors and friends over for a meal and conversation.  He was instilled with a strong work ethic by his parents who taught by example.  He worked in construction and was an entrepreneur operating a small grocery store and providing taxi services.  Robert had a zest for life and lived his Life to the fullest.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his beloved wife, Carolyn; siblings, Emma Stancil and Melvin Bailey; and brother in-laws, Joseph Jones II and Walter Ray Stancil.  He leaves to cherish fond memories, his children, Mark Anthony, Robin Mitchell-Shuler (Wayne), Lisa Michelle and Gregory Scott Mitchell, and Ta-Tanisha Pierre; siblings, Anthony Mitchell (Brenda), Lenora Mitchell, Edith Scott (Teddy), and Sally Payton (Walter); brother in-laws, Charles Jones and Perry Jones; sister in-law, Victory Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family.
