Mildred Colson Hunt, 85, of Asbury Park, New Jersey passed away on July 3, 2016.  She was born in Orange County, FL on October 20, 1930 to Lawrence Colson and Evelyn Frison.

She received her formal education in the Florida Public School System and graduated from New York City College in 1951. Mildred married Kenneth Ware at the age of 19 and from that union had three daughters.

In 1953 Mildred was employed at the Strang Clinic in Manhattan, NY. One of her primary responsibilities was the management of all administrative functions within the Oncology Department. Her position and duties within the Clinic were unprecedented for a young black woman in the 1950s.

Mrs. Hunt was a compassionate, exceptionally bright and well organized manager.  She received constant praise from her superiors for her excellent leadership skills and efficient operation of the department.

She remarried in 1963 to William Simms and relocated her family to Asbury Park, NJ. Several years later William Simms passed away. Mildred's outstanding job performance at the Strang Clinic won her the position of Assistant Director of Radiation Therapy at Monmouth Medical Center in 1964. The appointment to this new management position was another rare achievement for this young minority female.  She retired from Monmouth Medical Center in 1994.

Mildred married James (Jim) H. Hunt, Sr. in 1986.  Shortly after her retirement she began working in the funeral home.  Jim Hunt passed away in 1999.  He was the love of her life.  The years she spent with him were the most joyous of her life.

Mildred joined St. Stephen's A.M.E. Zion Church under the leadership of Reverend Powell and was a faithful and dedicated member.  She was a member of the church Usher Board and the Ways and Means Committee.

She was an active member of the Business and Professional Women's Council of Monmouth County, past member of the Heart Association at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, and a board member of Georgian Court University.   Mildred was also a member of the Georgian Court University Education Opportunity Fund (EOF) program.  Her dedication to the community and hard work in this program enabled many young black women attendance in this university.

Mildred was predeceased by her husband, James H. Hunt, Sr.; parents, Lawrence Colson and Evelyn White; two uncles, and four aunts.

She is survived by her daughters, Beverly McCray of Randallstown, MD, Kay Brown of College Park, MD, and Xenia Ware of Asbury Park, NJ; stepchildren, Patricia D. Hunt, Karla Hunt Ellison (Willi) of Fernandina Beach, FL, James H. Hunt Jr. of Neptune, NJ; grandsons, Christopher McCray (Jada) of Parkville, MD, Kevin McCray of  Cockeysville, MD, Aaron Brown of College Park, MD, step grandson, James Hunt Ellison of Fernandina Beach, FL; great grandsons, Kyan McCray of Baltimore, MD, and Bryce McCray of Parkville, MD; great granddaughter, Blair McCray of Parkville, MD;  brother-in-law, Lorin Palmer Hunt; sister-in-laws, Gloria Hunt Miller and Ruth Hunt; cousins, Wilbert Frison (Brenda) of Brooklyn, NY, and Valerie Frison of New Haven, CT; dear friends, Patricia Royal, Beverly Young, and Karen White; and other family and friends.
