Obituary

Madison Gable Terrell, 80, of Neptune, NJ passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, NJ. He was born on April 10, 1935 in Savannah, GA to William Henry Terrell, Sr. and Hattie Edwards Terrell.

He was employed as a professional presser in the dry cleaning business before his illness. His true love and passion was music, "Matt" the Music Man. He played many instruments, the piano and the flute just to name a couple.

The real magic happened when Matt learned to play the bugle horn at the tender age of seven years old in elementary school. At the age of 12 he graduated from the bugle to the saxophone, and soon after he joined the James Drayton Jazz Band, playing alongside grown men twice his age. A few nights a week Music Man Matt would play in all white hotels and restaurants; he was that good! Once in college he joined the Savannah State Marching Band where he played the tenor Saxophone.

Matt moved to NJ and was a long standing resident of Neptune. He was a member of St Stephens A.M.E. Zion Church in Asbury Park, NJ. It was there that he continued his love for music by playing his beloved saxophone every Sunday morning. He also started his own band, The Terrell Trio. They would often travel throughout NJ playing countless jazz tunes to the masses.

He was predeceased by his parents, William Henry Terrell Sr. and Hattie Edwards Terrell. He is survived by his ex-wife, Vivian Terrell; two daughters, Patrice Terrell of NY, and Cynthia Weedon of NJ; two sons, Madison G. Terrell Jr. of GA, and Derrick G. Terrell of NJ; two sisters, Viola Lovett of NY, and Ethel Terrell Frazier of CA; one brother, William H. Terrell Jr.; four granddaughters, Kelly Weedon, Talya and Taleeya Terrell, and Akira Terrell; two grandsons, David and Kyle Weedon; two nieces, Janice Lovett and Wanda Frazer; a special, loving, caring and devoted friend, Evelyn Cruse; and a host of loving relatives and friends.
