Joseph C. Smith was born on August 19, 1917 in Asbury Park, New Jersey to Cora and William Smith, where he resided most of his life.  He passed away on April 28, 2017 in Wilmington, Delaware where he lived the later part of his life.

Joseph was employed with the City of Asbury Park Housing Authority for over 30 years.  He was a proud Army veteran of World War II, and had received the French Legion of Merit medal among other commendations.

He was predeceased by his wife, Ella; sister, Ardella; and brother, Norman.  He is survived by his son, David; grandchildren, Connie Booker-Hall (Raymond), Wallicia Butler, and Donna Smith; great great grandchildren, Aliesha Booker, Felicia Booker, Jasmine Hall, Terek, Tyshon, Maleeka, Markim, Myasia, Nardirah, Keisha, and Tanaysha; four great great great grandchildren; devoted nieces, Gloria, Rita, and Joyce; and a host of other relatives and friends.
