John Venable, Sr., 94, of Neptune, New Jersey passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, New Jersey. He was born in Rice, Virginia on August 11, 1922 to Manson and Mary Venable.

John was employed at Camp Pickett in Blackstone, Virginia for many years before moving to New Jersey and becoming a self-employed Mason. He joined the Masons in 1953 and was a member of the Lafayette Lodge in Asbury Park, New Jersey for many years.

He was also a former member of Shiloh Baptist Church, in Manasquan, New Jersey. John was a longtime resident of Brielle, New Jersey before moving to Neptune. He married Louise in 1942 and they remained in holy matrimony for 69 years.

John was predeceased by his wife, Louise Venable; son, John Venable, Jr.; four brothers; five sisters; and two grandsons.

He is survived by his daughters, Joan Harris and son-in-law Rudolf Anderson of Neptune, New Jersey, and Mary Rose Venable of Asbury Park, New Jersey; sister, Cora May Little of Brooklyn, New York; six grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
