James Edward Mitchell, Jr., 59, of Asbury Park, NJ passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the Christiana Medical Center in Wilmington, Delaware surrounded by his family. He was born on May 12, 1956 at the formerly known Fitkin Hospital, Neptune, NJ to the late James Edward Mitchell, Sr. and Ruvenia Vivian Davis-Mitchell.
James, affectionately known as, "Jimmy Bird", was raised in Asbury Park and attended the Asbury Park School system. He grew up as a member of the St. Stephen AME Zion Church.
"Jimmy Bird", as most called him, was renowned for his barber skills. He was known for being one of the best Barbers in the cities of Asbury Park and Neptune. Jimmy Bird had never worked in a barbershop; he taught himself how to cut hair and became the best at it.
In 2010 Jimmy Bird moved to Wilmington, Delaware where he started a new life. He was employed as a Housekeeper for the Doubletree Hotel, where he remained employed until he became ill in March 2016. The hotel employees affectionately called him "Mr. Jim".
He was predeceased by his parents, James Edward Mitchell Sr. and Ruvenia Vivian Mitchell; and sister, Dorothy Marian Brown, affectionately known as "Nadine".
He leaves to mourn and cherish his memories his brothers, Mark Mitchell of Wilmington, DE, and Edward Mitchell of Asbury Park, NJ; sister, Sabrina Mitchell of Eatontown, NJ; two nieces, LaRonda Brown-Suit (Richard) of Neptune, NJ, and Lanae Brown-Foster (Saleem) of Neptune City, NJ; two nephews, Douglas Mitchell of Red Bank, NJ, and Tyrone Mitchell of Freehold, NJ; two great nieces, LaTerra Brown of Tinton Falls, NJ, and Alannah Maxie of Neptune, NJ; one great nephew, Sahmir Schenck of Neptune, NJ; and one great-great niece, Chloe McMullen of Tinton Falls, NJ; and a devoted companion whom he loved dearly, Lynette Smith of Wilmington, DE.
