Geneva C. Bell, 92, was born on September 10, 1924 to the late Willie and Winnie Carter of Mansfield, Louisiana, Desoto Parish.  She passed away at home on Tuesday, May 16, 2017.  Geneva joined St. Peters Baptist Church in Pelican, LA at an early age and was baptized.  She received her formal education in the Desoto Parish Training Center.

Upon graduation she attended Grambling State University, formerly known as "The Negro Normal and Industrial Institute", and received a B.S. in Physical Education.  In 1944, Geneva began her teaching career in Shreveport, LA with the Caddo Parish School Board. She was a Girls P.E. Coach at J.S. Clark Jr. High School for most of her tenure.

Geneva met and married the late Robert C. Bell of Randolph County, Georgia.  Their union was blessed with one daughter, Robin D. Bell.  She was a very proud and dutiful officer's wife, traveling with her husband during his 30 years of service in the US Army.

Captain Bell was stationed all over the country and overseas in Germany.  In 1963, they moved from Germany and settled in Asbury Park, NJ.  While she resided in New Jersey, Geneva faithfully attended Martin Luther King Jr. Presbyterian Church in Asbury Park, NJ.

In 1964, she continued her professional career with the Jackson Township Board of Education.  She taught formal education at the Switlik School and the Joseph E. Clayton Middle School.  Geneva continued her education and received a master's degree in Physical Education from New York University, and a master's degree in Educational Administration from Columbia University.

After earning her second master's degree she became the Head of the Physical Education and Drivers Education Departments at Jackson Memorial High School.  Geneva retired from the school district in 1986 after 20 years of service.

Geneva was an avid golfer and a member of the Lady Nine-Holers, also known as the "Sun-Eagles". She was a member of the Fort Monmouth Officers Wives Club and the Ladies Auxiliary, also known as the TLC Group.

She was predeceased by her parents, Willie and Winnie Carter; husband, Robert C. Bell, two sisters, Marie Williams and Mae Thomas; and one brother, Fred Carter.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Robin D. Bell of Asbury Park, NJ; one sister in law, Emma Brown of Orlando, FL; two nieces, Rosie Roberts of Shreveport, LA, and Andrea Selbey of Newark, NJ; three nephews, Cleveland Jones of Shreveport LA, Randall and Stevie Bell of Hartford CT; one first cousin, Helen Patricia (Elijah) Simmons of Kingwood, TX; and a host of family and friends.
