Estelle Coleman, 85, of Neptune, New Jersey passed away on March 9, 2020. She was born on July 1, 1934 in Richmond, Virginia. After moving to New Jersey at an early age she attended the segregated Bradley Park Elementary School, and furthered her education at Asbury Park High School, Asbury Park, NJ.
She later went on to attend Carver Vocational School of Nursing in Atlanta, Georgia. She pursued her passion for nursing and was employed for several years as the home healthcare provider for the noted prosecutor in the historic Charles Lindbergh kidnapping case, Mr. and Mrs. David Theodore Wilentz.
Ms. Coleman spent many years in Christian fellowship at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, Asbury Park. Prior to the onset of her medical disabilities, Estelle was an active member of United Fellowship Baptist Church, Asbury Park, where she served as Lead Usher under Pastor Elliot Cuff and Pastor James H. Brown, Sr.
Once confined to her home, you could always catch Estelle watching televised sermons, her favorite game shows, and caring for a few of her grandchildren, great grandchildren, or great great-grandchildren. She loved to engage those who visited her in long conversations about former President Barrack Obama's daily itinerary and current events.
She was predeceased by her parents, Charles "Granny" (1991) and Irene Shepherdson (2006); brother, Richard Campbell; daughters, Deborah Geneva Lee (1994), Denise Glen Scercy (2015), and Danielle Willem Coleman (2015).
Mourning her loss are her son, Dakeem Coleman, Neptune, NJ; daughters, Diane L. Shelton, Asbury Park, NJ, and Donna Davis, Atlanta, GA; granddaughters, Tracy Simmons, Neptune, NJ, Tasha Lee, Neptune, NJ, Joelle Coleman, Asbury Park, NJ, Dalia Carmela-Estelle Coleman, Norfolk, VA, and India Davis, Atlanta, GA; grandsons, Dante James Coleman and Dario Michael Coleman, Norfolk, VA, Julian Coleman, Asbury Park, NJ, Jovan Coleman, Newark, NJ, Alphonso Lewis, Atlanta, GA, Mason Davis, Atlanta, GA, Tahim and Terrace Simmons, West VA; 13 great grandchildren; 3 great great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.
