Elijah Postell, Sr. was born to the late Deacon Holiday and Mother Hattie Bealo Postell on June 24, 1929 in Tusculum, GA. He attended the public schools in Effingham County. On July 16, 1950 he was united in Holy Matrimony to Sallie Bell Goldwire. Through this union they were blessed with ten children.
After relocating to New Jersey in 1952, Elijah worked at Best Block in Metuchen, NJ, until his retirement, and then took on other small positions to keep himself busy.
Elijah united himself with Wicker Memorial Baptist Church under the Pastorship of the Late Rev. Milton Austin. Elijah was a man of faith, who spent much of his life serving God. He served faithfully and was ordained as a Deacon by the Late Rev. Calvin S. Wood. He served untiringly as Chairman of the Deacon Board at Wicker Memorial Baptist Church under several Pastors, and most currently under Pastor Joseph L. Pickett until his death.
Elijah enjoyed his church family as well as his own family. He loved watching all of his children and grandchildren laughing and having fun at family functions.
Elijah was predeceased by his son, Elijah Postell, Jr.; and grandson, Donald Lamont Postell.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Sallie Bell, Keansburg, NJ; three sons, Donald Postell (Darlene), Freehold, NJ, Allen Postell (Sarita), Cliffwood, NJ, and Daniel Postell (Stephanie) Dallas, GA; six daughters, Margretta Phillips, Tinton Falls, NJ, Rovena Brown (Earl), Neptune, NJ, Loretta Postell (Richard), New Egypt, NJ, Margaret Ann Postell, Bel Air, MD, Nadine Hunley (Robert), Neptune, NJ, and Monica Mason (Ronald), Cameron, NC; two sisters, Almeta Neal, Cliffwood, NJ, and Mary Lue Canady, Franklin, GA; 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and one special friend, John Allen.
