Obituary

Rev. Cyrus Green, 75, of Asbury Park, New Jersey passed away on October 28, 2016.  He was born on January 16, 1941 in Charleston, South Carolina to Cyrus and Daisy Green.

His family moved to Asbury Park, New Jersey when he was nine years old.  Rev. Green graduated from Neptune High School, Neptune, New Jersey.  He was introduced to Miss Eula Cephus in 1970, they were married in 1975.  Two children were born to this union.

He joined Friendship Baptist Church, Asbury Park, New Jersey in 1979.  He was a member of the Senior Choir, Male Chorus, served on the Deacon Board for twelve years, and was board chairman.

Rev. Green loved God, his family and his Church.  He received his calling into the ministry of Jesus Christ in April 1995. He was Superintendent of Sunday School, Associate Minister of Friendship Baptist Church, a Worship Leader, and Vice President of Mission and Bible study.  He was a graduate of Monmouth Bible Institute, served as secretary of the Deacon's Union of Monmouth and adjacent counties, a member of Asbury Park/Neptune Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, and served as the treasurer.

Rev. Green was a dedicated servant of the Lord and his community.  His trial sermon was preached on November 21, 1999.   He provided fellowship and counseling to bereaved families, counseled and married many couples.

He was predeceased by his parents, Cyrus Green Sr. and Daisy Green; sister, Anna Coleman; two brothers, Edward Simmons and James Green; and son-in-law, Darin Bacote.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of forty-one years, Eula Green; six children, Cyrus Green,  Toms River, NJ, Daryl Green, Neptune, NJ, Phillip Sanders, Philadelphia, PA, Kevin Sanders, Freehold, NJ, Tonia Green-Bacote , Neptune, NJ, Michael Lundsford, Albany, GA; one stepson, Daryl Bradley , Omaha, NE; twenty-two  grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother, William Simmons (Gail),  Jackson, NJ;  sister-in-law , Mary (Keith) Everett, Oglethorpe, GA;  six brother- in-laws, Wallace (Carolyn) Cephus, Newark, NJ,  Johnlee Cephus, Oglethorpe, GA,  Leroy Cephus, Atlanta, GA, Eddie Cephus, Macon, GA, Willie Cephus, Oglethorpe, GA and  Newton Cephus, Macon, GA; sister-in-laws, Shirley Cephus, Oglethorpe, GA and Phyllis Simmons, NJ;  two special friends, Nale Cave and Joyce Rice; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
