Christine (Thomas) Owens, 94, was born on March 11, 1927, in Long Branch, NJ. She departed this life on Monday, September 27, 2021, at Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, NJ.

Christine graduated from Neptune High School, Neptune, NJ, class of 1946. In 1949, she joined the Women's Army Corp and received several commendations for her service in Fort Lee, Virginia, Fort Knox, Kentucky, and Munich, Germany. After her tour of duty, Christine received Honorable Service as a Sergeant in December 1953. In February 1954, Christine started working in the Finance and Accounting Section, Fort Monmouth, NJ. She was the Accounts Payable Supervisor. After thirty (30) years of service, she retired on July 3, 1984.

Retirement was a good phase in Christine's life because she had time for volunteer work in several nursing homes in her community. She enjoyed talking to the patients and making them smile. Christine took time for traveling to the Fitness Center at Fort Monmouth five days a week, swimming at Neptune Aquatic Center, walking, and attending events at the Neptune Senior Citizen Center.

Christine met and married the love of her life, Mack Owens, in Neptune, NJ, 1964. She and Mack met while stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky. Christine and Mack enjoyed taking vacations to Florida, California, Kentucky, St. Croix, and Canada.

Christine was a faithful, longtime member of Second Baptist Church, Asbury Park, NJ for over fifty-five years where she served on the Board of Trustees, the Edythe Douglas Food Pantry, and other ministries as a behind the scenes worker.

She was pre-deceased by her parents, Robert and Estella Thomas; devoted husband of fifty-six years, Mack Owens; brothers, Robert Thomas, Edward Thomas; and stepdaughter, Regina Owens.

Christine leaves to cherish her memory stepdaughters, Valerie and Lori Owens, Louisville, Kentucky; goddaughter, Cynthia Moore, Neptune, NJ; step-grandsons, Major Mack Owens, III (Maria) and Christopher Owens of Louisville, KY; step-granddaughter, Adrienne Tennyson of Louisville, KY; a niece and several nephews; a devoted family, the Brenda and the late James L. Terrell of Neptune, NJ; and a host of relatives and friends.
