Catherine Corilee Davis, 101, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Manor by the Sea Nursing Home in Ocean Grove, New Jersey. She was born in Federal Point, Florida on June 29, 1915 to Lonnie and F. Alberta Johnson.

Catherine graduated from Bethune Cookman College in Daytona Beach, Florida in 1938.  She taught elementary school for one year before marrying Joseph C. Davis on April 8, 1939 in Daytona Beach.

Catherine and Joseph moved to Asbury Park, New Jersey in 1940. They were the proprietors of Manhattan Cleaners for over 50 years.

She was a member of St. Stephen A.M.E. Zion Church for over 70 years and was celebrated as their oldest living member. She also joined the Adah Chapter #17 Order of Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliation, on December 6, 1946.   She is acknowledged as a lifetime member and was the longest living member until her passing.

Catherine was predeceased by her husband, Joseph C. Davis; three brothers, Leon, Melvin, and Lonnie Johnson; one sister, Mercedes Felder; and son-in-law, Uly D. Keener, Jr.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Janice Davis Keener of Neptune, New Jersey; two grandchildren, Julie R. Keener of Atlanta, Georgia, and Uly Duayne Keener of Parkville, Maryland;  and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Catherine was loved and embraced by many because of her smile, immeasurable kindness and wit.
