Obituary

Calvin Jerome Lane, 71, of Neptune, New Jersey passed away Wednesday, Sept 21, 2016.  He was born in St Petersburg, Florida on December 1, 1944.

Calvin moved to Neptune, New Jersey when he was a small child and attended the Neptune Township public school system. Soon after completing High School, Calvin was selected (drafted), into in the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War 1965 – 1968.  He received the National Defense Medal, The Vietnam Campaign Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal.

He was employed at the Ocean Place Hilton in Long Branch, NJ for 19 years. Calvin was best known in his community in the 70's for his candy store on Springwood Avenue, and then later for selling his clothing, hats and oils on the corner of Springwood and Avenue A in Asbury Park.

Calvin was a gentle, yet wise man with an optimistic outlook on life. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was loyal to his family and friends, and was always willing to help whenever he could.  He could strike up a conversation with anyone and enjoyed eating good food, listening to oldies and rooting for the Dallas Cowboys. His favorite pastime was shopping in New York City and spending quality time with friends on the block (Springwood and Avenue A). He believed in "Destiny" (God's Will First), and he will always be remembered by all who knew him.

Calvin was predeceased by his parents, Gus Sr. and Juni May Lane; 1 son, Alonzo Lane; and 2 brothers, Frankie and Alvin Lane. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Gina Davis-Lane; 3 sons, Calvin Johnson, Kareem and Fuquan Davis of Neptune; 2 daughters, Kamesha and Anna Davis of Neptune; 11 grandchildren, Kareem, Kazhana, Kadree, Kyasia, Sanaai, Nakayla, Nasir, Kua'Ron, Ah'Moni, Skye and Jaylen; 3 brothers, Gus (Pop) Lane of Neptune, Willis and Michael Lane of St. Petersburg Fla; 1 sister, Bernae Anderson; sister in-law, Shatina Davis-Palmer (Rodney) of Asbury Park; father in-law, Vasco Reid and Aunt Ernestine Horsley of Neptune; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. Calvin loved and cherished his special relationships with his NA family.
