Obituary

Mother Barbara Jean Morris Jones passed peacefully from this life the morning of April 18, 2016, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer 's disease.  She was surrounded and cared for by her loving family. Her identical twin sister, Betty, lovingly cared for her during those years of her life.

The story of Barbara began April 30, 1938 in Birmingham, Alabama where she was born to the late Annie Mae Vaughn Morris and Feoley Morris. From this union were born four siblings, Feoley (deceased), Frances Elizabeth, Betty Jean, her identical twin, and Willie James.

As children, Barbara and Betty played in their playpen. They would take off their nametags and because they looked so much alike; their mother could not tell who was who!

Barbara's family moved to the shore area in her early years where she grew up in Asbury Park Village, Asbury Park, NJ.  All of the siblings sang together as young children.  Barbara and Betty sang in church and became known as "The Singing Sweethearts of Asbury Park." They were well known in New Jersey, as well as, New York and Pennsylvania.

Barbara graduated from Asbury Park High School in 1957.  She was a licensed cosmetologist and attended Monmouth County Vocational School graduating as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Barbara retired from Jersey Shore University Medical Center on March 31, 1998, after more than twenty-seven years of service.  She was a very athletic basketball and softball player in high school. She could hit a softball, run all the bases, and slide into home plate all in a skirt.

In 1961, Barbara and Betty married an uncle and nephew in a beautiful double wedding ceremony. Tiana, Tara, and Talmon were born from this union.

Barbara was baptized in the name of Jesus, and received the precious gift of the Holy Ghost at the early age of 15, and was happiest when she was serving or attending church.   Barbara loved the Word of God and had many study guides to assist her with debates for Adult Sunday School.

She attended the First Pentecostal Church of Neptune, NJ for over fifty years, where she served under the leadership of the late Pastor Mother Geneva Crudup and later, Overseer Paul L. Brown. She also served as head of the Trustee Board, the local Women's President, Sunday School Superintendent, choir member and National Youth Vice President.  In her later years, Barbara served as one of the church mothers, where Yvonne Kerr sat quietly by her side to ensure she was comfortable.  Barbara also loved to dress, travel and could bake a "MEAN" sweet potato pie.

Her last place of residence was Manor by the Sea where her congregational abundance groups visited faithfully every second Tuesday of each month. They sang hymns and shared prayers of love.   Betty faithfully visited Barbara each evening at dinnertime. She always had a smile.  We are blessed to have her as part of our family and she is extremely loved.  We are grateful for her presence.

She is survived by her children, Elder Tiana (Colonel retired Rolanda) Burnett of Westminster, MD), Tara Young of Jacksonville, FL, Talmon Jones of Atlanta, GA; eight grandchildren, Terrence (Chantel), Rolanda Jr, Trenee (ByShawn), Traci, Tayla, Reece; two great-grandchildren, Tahlya and Tamai;  two expected great-grandchildren; two sisters, Missionary Frances Trapp and Pastor Betty Jones; one brother, Willie (Yvonne) Morris; one Goddaughter, Pastor Demaries Carroll; two special friends, Jean Savage and Judy Walker; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends, First United Churches of Jesus Christ, and her First Pentecostal Church family.
