Annie J. Alexander, 87, of Neptune NJ, transitioned to her heavenly home on Monday, August 15, 2016 at Specialty Hospital of Central Jersey, Lakewood, NJ. She entered this beautiful world on September 20, 1928 in Montclair, NJ, into the loving arms of her parents, James and Lucille Marshall.
On October 21, 1961 Annie married the love of her life, Robert Lee Alexander. The couple bought their first home in East Orange, NJ, and later settled in Neptune, NJ. Out of their union two children were born, Carlton and Adrienne. While living in East Orange, Annie was a member of the North Jersey Chapter of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc.
Upon moving to Neptune, Annie and her family became members of Second Baptist Church, in Asbury Park, NJ. She later found a long time church home at her beloved Allen Chapel AME Church, in Asbury Park. Annie was a member of the Alice Moore Missionary Society.
She was employed by the Veterans Administration in East Orange, NJ for many years, until she sought a new career as a claims clerk with the Social Security Administration in Asbury Park, NJ. Annie retired from the Social Security Administration in September of 1990. She was a dedicated worker and was employed by the Federal Government for a total of 27 years.
Annie was predeceased by her husband, Robert Lee Alexander; brother, David E. Marshall, Sr. and wife, Evelyn. She is survived by her son, Carlton Alexander of Neptune; daughter, Adrienne Sanders and husband, Kevin Sanders of Asbury Park; five grandchildren, Kevin, Kaesan, Kianna, Kavonne and Keyshawn Sanders; two brothers, John L. Marshall, Sr. and his wife, Priscilla of Delaware, and Roy Marshall and his wife, Marilyn of Neptune; and a host of relatives and friends.
