Alexis Bates, 55, of Neptune, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, NY.  She was born October 29, 1958 in Long Branch, NJ to Ruth E. Bates and Edward M. Bates.

She was employed as an accounting manager at Charmant Group in Morris Plains, NJ as well as an adjunct professor and tutor for Centenary College.  She was a very active member of St. Stephen AME Zion Church, Asbury Park.  Her activities included teaching Sunday School, organizing and overseeing Vacation Bible School, and directing and producing church plays.

She was predeceased by both parents, Edward M. Bates and Ruth E. Bates.

She is survived by her daughter, Tanya Bates Peterson; granddaughter, Raven Peterson; step-granddaughter, Ashley Peterson; two sisters, Linda Cheeseboro and Adrienne Nelson; 3 nieces, LaTasharette Raquepo, LaTesha Cheeseboro, and Alaina Nelson; 2 nephews, Rodney Nelson, and Anthony Cheeseboro Jr., and a host of other relatives and friends.
