Alexander Goodman Jr., 78 years old, was born in Franklin, VA to Alice Jones Goodman and Alexander Goodman Sr. On March 3, 1947, Alex moved to Asbury Park, N.J., where he worked at the City Yard and earned the nickname "Catfish." From there, he became a property manager in Lakewood, N.J., and later worked for Local 343 in Neptune, N.J. for over 40 years. He helped young men enter the union so they could build better lives. After retiring from the union, he worked for the Asbury Park Housing Authority doing security.

Alexander was a man of integrity, kindness, and generosity, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. He enjoyed football and basketball, and loved talking on the phone with his lifelong friends Joseph Turner and Linda Matthews. He especially cherished spending time with Linda, taking long rides in her car, laughing, joking, and sharing great times.

He is preceded by wife Herlene Howard Goodman (AP), brother Robert Lee Jones (VA), sisters Lottie Doughtery (VA), aunt, Dot Lee (VA), nephew, Jerome Mason (VA), favorite cousin, Anthony (VA), grandson, Nathaniel Alex Hollins, granddaughter, Princess Young, son-in-law, David James Shillito, Helena Kelly, Barbara Bray, Mary Simmons.

He is survived by daughter, India Shillito, granddaughter, Ahlayah Shillito, nephew, Emmanuel Mason, niece, Michelle Mason, a host of stepchildren and grandchildren, Arnold Mudd, Anthony Morris, Bernard Solomon, Shawn Solomon Sr. & wife Tania Solomon, Aletta Brown, Helen Hayes, Tammie Thompson, Choniece Kelly, step-grandchildren Zavier Young, Adelia Clark, Prince Young, Albert Clark, Ikeene Brown, Sharhonda Foster, Acacia Thompson, Delanya Thompson, Tammy Thompson, Alvin Solomon, Shawn Solomon Jr., Selena Solomon, Helena Solomon, Tiesa Brown, Frances Brown, Leroya Hayes, Kemia Solomon, Tyshawn Solomon, and Bobby Howard.
