William E. Holland, Sr. 87, went to his eternal rest on Monday, March 19, 2018 at the Coral Harbor Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, Neptune, New Jersey. He was born on August 19, 1930 at the Taylor Hospital, Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, to the late Ross W. Holland and Mary Ruth Woodley Holland.
Bill was educated in the Chester, Pennsylvania public school system and graduated in 1948. He lived in Chester then relocated to Asbury Park, New Jersey where he was united in marriage to Ora R. Holland in December 1951. They later moved to Neptune where they resided for 50 years before moving to The Atria assisted living community in Tinton Falls, New Jersey. His wife of 65 years passed away in May 2017.
Bill served in the Korean War from 1950-1954 and received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army. He later served in the Army National Guard. Bill was employed by the State of New Jersey Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital as a Licensed Practical Nurse. He retired in September 1991.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Earl 3 years and Ross, Jr. 5 years; two sisters, Shirley 7 years and Carrie 9 years, who with their paternal grandmother, Margaret V. Holland, perished in a fatal fire in their Chester, Pennsylvania home on December 8, 1944; brother, John H. Holland of New York City passed away in February 2016 and sister, Agnes Sims also of New York City, in December 2016.
Bill leaves to cherish his memory two loving sisters, Margaret V. Brabham and Pauline Holland of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; his daughter and family caregiver Eleana May Holland-Winckler (Melvin) of Ocean, New Jersey; three sons Dennis Edward Holland (Kathleen) of Neptune, New Jersey; Robert Lawrence Holland (Beverly) of Neptune, New Jersey; and William Edward Holland, Jr. (Ann Marie) of Springhill, Florida. He is also survived by 12 Grandchildren, 14 Great-Grandchildren, and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren; dedicated group of health care providers (especially Ada, Mirron, Michelle, Sarah, Mimi, Elsa and Marie); and, a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
