The curtains of life were drawn to a close and eternal life was granted to Stacy Powell Jr, 74 of Neptune, NJ. Butch, as he was affectionally known, departed this life on Friday, June 7, 2019 peacefully at Jersey Shore University Medical Center Neptune, NJ.
Stacy was born April 24, 1945 in Lumberton, North Carolina to the late Stacy Powell Sr. and Allene Merrick. He was reared in the Robeson County School District in North Carolina where he lived many years before settling down in Asbury Park, NJ where he made his home for over 56 years.
Stacy served his country honorably in the US Army from 1966-1968 during the Vietnam War. He furthered his education at Lincoln Technical Institute where he received a certification in air conditioning, refrigeration and heating technology in April 1974. Stacy went on to obtain an Associate in Applied Science from Brookdale Community College in June 1984.
Stacy was employed by various insurance companies before embarking on a new journey to open and operate Powell Insurance Service in Asbury Park, NJ where he would later retire from. He was a member of the Freemasons Masonic Lodge in Asbury Park, NJ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stacy Powell Sr. and Allene Merrick; sister, Joanne Bradley; mother-in-law, Patricia A. Saunders; and sister-in-law, Paulette Saunders. He leaves to cherish his memories to his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Freda M. Powell; three children, Patricia A. Robinson of Florida, Stephanie Powell-Wainwright, and Stacy T. Hampton of NJ; nephew, Michael A. Bradley of NJ that he thought of as a son; 2 sisters, Betty Leake of NC, and Dorothy "Jean" Cruz of NY; 1 brother, Guy Wilson Jr. of NJ; grandchildren, Barron Robinson and Danielle Robinson of NC, Rhashawn Jenkins-Powell, Monte, Maliek, and Ralph Wainwright of NJ; niece, Michele E. Saunders; great nephew, Vincent J. Smith of NJ; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
2 Corinthians 5:1, 6-8
"For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God a house not made by hands eternal in the heavens. Therefore, we are always confident knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord. For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord."
