Mary Clark Thompson, 100, of Spring Lake, New Jersey passed away on Friday, September 1, 2017. She was born on November 5, 1916 in Rockfish, Virginia to Norman and Sadie Clark.
The family moved to Spring Lake, New Jersey when Mary was eight years of age. She attended Como Grammar School and graduated from Manasquan High School.
The family joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Belmar, New Jersey. Years later Mary’s brother, Chester Clark, became the Pastor, and another brother, James, was a Deacon in the church.
She later attended Rutgers University while living in East Orange, New Jersey. She worked as a Para-Professional in the East Orange School district as an Instructional Aid for gifted children.
Mary returned to Spring Lake in 1986. She was 91 years of age at the time. When the church needed a financial secretary, she was appointed to the position, which she held for many years.
Mary is survived by one son, Michael Thompson of Newark, New Jersey; five grandchildren; two sisters, Annie Valentine of East Orange, New Jersey and Catherine Tassy of Montclair, New Jersey.
