Lettie Mae George, 83, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2019. She was born on February 13, 1936 in Bassett, Virginia to the late Roosevelt and Nannie Ruth Thomas. She was one of eleven children, and was raised in a religious household based on the principles of the Primitive Baptist Church.
Our Mother was educated in the Henry County Virginia School system, and graduated from George Washington Carver High School in Bassett, Virginia in 1953. She continued her education by attending North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, NC. Lettie graduated in 1957 with a degree in Commercial Education. Not only did she get a wonderful education at NC A& T, she also met the love of her life, Harold James George. They were married on April 13, 1958. Two sons were born from this union, Harold Wayne and Donald. No mother could have loved her sons more.
She was trained as a Social Worker and worked for the Ocean County Board of Social Services for nearly 28 years, before retiring in February 2000. She enjoyed casinos, traveling and cooking. She was a wonderful cook and her specialties included lasagna, mac and cheese, stuffing, and in her words, "almost better than sex cake".
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold James George; parents, Roosevelt and Nannie Ruth Thomas; 3 brothers, Finell, Jack and Roosevelt; 1 sister, Nannie Ruth Thomas.
She is survived by 2 sons, Harold W. I have fought a good fight,
I have finished my course
I have kept the faith.
