Mrs. Julia Elaine Talley Birchett of Neptune, NJ, crossed over to glory on July 12, 2018. She was born on March 30, 1943, in Dinwiddie, VA. Julia was the first of eight children born to Floyd Talley, Sr. and Lucille Cox Talley of Sutherland, VA.
She was a graduate of Southside High School Class of 1961. She was retired from URS Corporation (Lakehurst Naval Base) where she worked as a warehouse specialist for nine years. She also worked for Steinbachs distribution center for 20+ years until it closed in 1999.
Julia accepted the Lord as her savior at an early age and was baptized at Rocky Branch Baptist Church in Sutherland, VA. She later moved to New Jersey in 1963 and became a member of St. Stephen AME Zion Church in Asbury Park.
Julia was a very talented sewer and could make anything once she put her mind to it. She attended and enjoyed participating in craft shows, traveling, and loved gardening for herself as well as others.
She was preceded in death by her son, Vincent Birchett; parents, Floyd Talley, Sr. and Lucille Talley; sisters, Annie Williams and Gloria Richardson; two nephews, Jeramy Gilliam and Jonathan Jones.
She leaves to cherish her memory her ex-husband, James Birchett; one son, Martin Birchett (Tanya); two daughters, Debra and Jacqueline Birchett; five grandchildren, Corey (Tish), Jeneice, David (she raised all three), Ashley and Lauren Birchett; seven great grandchildren, Sage Boea, Keyshawn, Victoria, Justyn, Shania, Kyra and Kyle; five remaining siblings, one brother, Floyd Talley, Jr. (Brenda) of Petersburg, VA; four sisters, Doris Tucker of Harper Woods, MI, Carolyn Burkehalter (Thomas Sr.) of Chesterfield, VA, Thomasine Gilliam (Robert) of Petersburg, VA, and Beverly Varner (Adrian) of Dinwiddie, VA; bother-in-law, Kyle Richardson; two aunts, Everline Ricks (Lorenzo) of Rockville, MD, and Susie Davis of Newark, NJ; sister and brother-in-law, Ruby and Alonzo Wright; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
