Juanita Saunders was born on September 19, 1932 in Asbury Park, New Jersey to the late Mr. Major and Mrs. Ethel Halinda Day. She was educated in the Asbury Park School System.
At an early age, she was employed by New Jersey Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator. She retired as one of New Jersey Bell Pioneers. She loved music and learned to play the piano, which lead her to teach her sons and many in the community. She was always ready to serve her community as a neighbor.
Juanita was a lifelong member of Second Baptist Church of Asbury Park. She served as Assistant Superintendent and teacher of Sunday School, Vacation Bible School Teacher, and member of the Christian Board of Education. She was a Seacoast Honoree and was honored as a Fifty Years (+) Member.
Juanita was predeceased by her parents; son, Darryl Hughley; brother, Major Douglas Day Jr.; and sister, Deloris Shepperson. She leaves to cherish her memories her sisters, Valerie Brown (James), and Ruth Davis (Charles); brother, Ivan Day; sons and grandchildren, (Darryl) Sonni, Samara, Devon, Wayne D. Hughley (Ophelia), Aimie, Wayne D. Jr, Camille, Christopher, Kevin M. Hughley (Deborah), Kerryn, Kyla, Clarence W. Saunders Clareese, David A. Saunders (Samantha), Taylor, Elijah; extended grand-children, Alyssia Vick, Donald “DJ” Vick, Clinton Thomas, Alexandria Scott, Raven Parnell, Larry Sessom; and a host of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and god children.
