Hubert Smith

Hubert Smith, 85, of Neptune, NJ was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 29, 2017.  He was born on February 8, 1932 in Conway, SC to Laura Spain and Herbert Smith.  He attended Whittemore High School, Conway, SC before he enlisted into the US Army.

Hubert was employed by Anderson Brothers Moving Company for over 25 years.  He retired from the Monmouth County Reclamation Center in 2001.  After retiring he drove the school bus for the State of New Jersey, Department of Development Disabilities.

He was a long time member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, Asbury Park, NJ.  He was a former member of the church Steward Board, Male Chorus and the Lay Organization. Hubert was also a member of Monmouth Lodge #122 I.B.P.O.E. of W., Asbury Park, NJ were he served as Exalted Ruler for many years, member of Fidelity Lodge #42 F.& A.M., P.H.A., Long Branch, NJ where he served as Worshipful Master, and on the Grand level, he served as District Grand Lecturer.

Hubert was predeceased by his mother and stepfather, Laura and Solomon Williams; father, Herbert Smith; three brothers, Solomon Jr., Ronald and Stephen Williams; and one sister, Joan Sessions.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 37 years, Gwendolyn (Gee Gee) Smith, Neptune, NJ; devoted daughter, Alexis Conklin (Sean) of Neptune, NJ; two granddaughters, Janiyah and Skylar, whom he cherished; one sister, Laura Smith of Maryland; one brother, Willie Williams (Deborah) of Maryland; best friend, Elijah Hamilton; and a host of other family and friends.
